Jim will present techniques for creating Basket of Illusion.
Hands-on Class
July 31 and August 1, 2025, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Class Description – (10 students max)
Jim will be teaching the entire Basket of Illusion process from start to finish. We will talk about which kind of wood is best for your project and the process and will be turning a small plate. We will also explore the design process, choosing and drawing out the pattern and then transferring it to your piece. There will be four different designs you can choose from to use in this class. He will also have a vendor list to show where to get supplies.

Beading Tools
- I use the 1/8” & 3/16” tool by D-Way Tools. I use them unhandled. - http://www.d-waytools.com
Burning Pens

Tell him you need a Basket Illusion pen. I use 1/8” pen #21AEF & 3/16” pen #21BEF. - Optima pens have a male RCA jack on the end of the pen. You will need the proper connection cord if you have a different brand of burner.
- Any wood burner is suitable. I use Optima 1
Colored Ink Marking Pens
- I use Faber Castell Pitt artist pens. These pens use pigmented India ink are lightfast and archival quality. Available online at dickblick.com or at Hobby Lobby & Michaels (limited colors available).
- I use 2 nib sizes, Brush and Superfine of each color.
- I also use Micron .3 & Pigma, brush pens.
